Brian Hoey
Celtic Harpist
Special Music for a Special Occasion Brian’s harp music adds enchantment and elegance to all occasions. In addition to weddings, civil ceremonies and other celebrations, Brian is available to play in restaurants and at corporate events, including receptions and product launches, as well as dining-in nights and parties.
The presence and sound of a harpist provides a sophisticated backdrop to your special event.
Brian plays the Celtic harp; this stands approximately three feet tall and many people think it has the sweetest sound of all types of harp.
The repertoire is centred on Irish and Scottish harp airs: the same music that has entertained Celtic nobility for centuries. For added variety the set also includes American, Paraguayan and English tunes. Brian can offer an extended repertoire by adding acoustic guitar music to the performance. All of his music is highly melodic, enchanting and soothing.
"Brian, the harpist, really created a romantic atmosphere with his selection of expertly delivered music" P. Dale
Venue Brian is based in North East England and offers his services throughout Tyne and Wear, Co. Durham, Northumberland, the Borders and North Yorkshire. The venue needs to have enough room for Brian, the harp and any amplification equipment to sit comfortably. This means a space at least six feet square. There must be adequate white light, with no coloured lights shining on the performance area, as well as an armless chair. Normally, Brian will arrive an hour beforehand to set up. He will need to get changed, put the harp in position, tune up and do a sound check. After the event, it takes him around half an hour to pack away. If your venue has steep stairs, or a long walk from available parking, please mention this in advance. If you've asked Brian to play for more than one hour, He will need to take short breaks - around five minutes for every forty minutes of playing. "The selection of music was just right, the volume perfect, and we did not realise that a single harp could sound so good." S & R Gray
Volume
The celtic harp is a relatively quiet instrument, so for medium to large sized venues or outdoor events, Brian may bring amplification. He needs a 13 amp socket for his amplifier. Weather
Harps are sensitive instruments that are damaged by high humidity and strong sunlight. If your event is outside, you will need to provide a covered and level position for the harp, inside a marquee or gazebo is ideal. If the ground is not hard a piece of carpet or groundsheet will help prevent the harp and harpist sinking into the ground.
"During the evening many people said how much they enjoyed the Harp music,....I am sure that it would be suitable for many other occasions” Mr. & Mrs. S. Lee
"We found ourselves fascinated by his playing and compelled to watch his hands playing across the strings. All in all an excellent night made better by Brian's music." P. Dale
